Alphabet Journal in Kindergarten
Alphabet Journal in Kindergarten
Alphabet Journal in Kindergarten: This year I tried directed drawing on the first day of school again. Yes, you heard that right….the first day! It almost sounds crazy. If you teach Kindergarten, you know what I am saying, there is a good portion of kids who can’t write their name or numbers. Why would I think they could follow along with directed drawings? At first, it was a struggle. I’m not going to lie. But I stuck with it, pushed through and understood that in the beginning their drawings were not going to be perfect (a little more “abstract”). But still cute! What I’ve learned over the last 22 days is that the directed drawings have taught my kids to follow directions, form lines and shapes, and more. If you are interested in more directed drawings, check out my blog post about Directed Drawings for the Whole Year.
When I introduced the letter “Rr” this week and I said to start at the top, pull down, and go back up and give it a flat rainbow…they knew exactly what to do, they followed along perfectly. It made me realize that the directed drawings had helped them to learn more than just their alphabet!
All of the directed drawings shown are part of my A to Z Directed Drawing pack. You will love the choices included. I think it would be perfect for any grade if you are looking for directed drawings!
Here is a video tutorial on how to draw a tiger and shows you exactly how I do directed drawings in my classroom. The angle is terrible and it’s at the end of the day, so just ignore how I look =) The actual tutorial for the T is for Tiger directed drawing begins at 2:37.
So awesome! I have your year-long directed drawing pack and I love it!! This is great, too, and so good for the Kinders! They turned out awesome!
Lovely post! This Alphabet Journal in Kindergarten is worth trying in my class. I bet my kids will love it. The internet has become my favorite place to look into interesting teaching ideas. I use this website quite frequently for my students http://www.kidsfront.com/class/3rd-class.html. I hope it will be helpful for you too.
