Pete the Cat and Building a Staircase Freebie: Pete the Cat and Building a Staircase Freebie: My class ADORES Pete the Cat, so I used my Kitty Cat Style PackĀ to add some fun to ourĀ literature study!
Ā
We started our weekly estimation station last week. We record the estimations in our journal and explore the data. Ā Last week it was bears, this week we estimated pom-poms =)
I found the estimation station on Amazon for pretty cheap:
This is how I divide my groups for rotation, with my ship showing where each group goes each day. Ā Here is an old view of the ship, before the groups were added:
We worked on building a staircase with unifix cubes…I created Ā a quick and easy staircase for them to use (we added 11 and 12 out to the edge to extend the lesson as we worked). Ā You can pick up this freebie by clicking {here}! If you want to get MANY of my freebies all in one shot, check out my Facebook page and click on “Fan Freebies” tab at the top!
When I printed the staircase, the last column’s top line was cut off…so I adjusted the print settings and it printed fine, but was a tiny bit smaller than the original. Ā I also could have just drawn in that line if I needed to =)

    1. It isn't really a game exactly…it is just an exploring activity where the kids build towers for the numbers 1-12, with the numbers written on the bottom cube. I am sure there is a way you might could make it into more of a game, but my kids enjoyed just the exploring and comparing aspect of the mat =) Hope that helps!

  1. Thanks for being fabulous! I am trying to get extra help with Investigations and I love your ideas. I am just beginning to purchase items since I am new to first grade. I taught Kinder for 25 years. I would love any advice you have on purchasing specific items you have developed with regards to investigations. I am so willing to spend the money. Thanks!
