Goldilocks and the Three Bears Math and Literacy {Sub Tub}

·
I have been working for what feels like FOREVER on this sub tub…all you need is this pack and the classic book, Goldilocks and the Three Bears and you are set!  You can use it as a sub tub or as a thematic unit.  I tried to make this completely self contained, everything you need …except the book!
I included activities for literacy, math, and social studies.  You can check out the product listing page for some of the Common Core standards covered.  I took pictures of  just some of the activities:
 Doubles Dice Game:
 Measuring:
 Ordering by size:
Characters and Text to Self Connections:
I place all the prepped materials in a binder and I am ready for any emergency when I need to be out!

Here is an overview of most of the pages, not including the measuring activities:
Leave a comment about what you like to leave for your sub when you are out…or a comment about anything else (what you think of the pack maybe?)  and I will choose a random winner to give this pack to in the next couple of days!
Congrats!

  1. I like to leave a "theme day" too, whenever I have to be out (which isn't often)….I've always said it's too much work to prep for a sub, but this would certainly make it MUCH easier! Thanks for all of your hard work!

  2. If I have any extra worksheets left over I put them in a tray for time-fillers, including sub days. that guarantees that the work is something that the students have already covered and is extra practice. I would also find a short video that would go with the materials for the sub tub, like in this case, a version of Goldilocks or maybe a non-fiction clip of bears.

  3. Sub tub! This is a great option, too, for homeschool moms. THOSE days happen for us, too! Needing to take a sick child to the doctor, or not feeling too great myself? This sub tub would be a great "FUN SCHOOL" day, as we call it!

  4. This looks awesome. When I have a sub I like leaving Miss Nelson is Missing and they compare the two teachers. They also write me a letter, play sparkle, and BINGO. I would LOVE to win this because it is seriously no prep. You never know when you will need a sub. Sub planning takes FOREVER

  5. My kids love read alouds so I always leave a picture book that I love but haven't had a chance to read as a time filler. I also love to leave BINGO or SCOOT games to practice those skills that have already been introduced.

  6. This is an awesome unit. A sub for me means several hours of prep of detailed pland. A unit like this would make life easier. This would also make for a great educational fun day where we r learning but not using traditional books.

  7. Such a great unit!! I usually just have a bunch of time fillers and pre-made math and literacy centers they can use. I like the idea of a themed unit, this one is awesome!

  8. This pack is absolutely adorable! My assistant usually takes over while I am out, so she just keeps up with the lessons that we would be doing. I love this unit! I would love to use it when we have our Read In Day. It is fantastic!!

  9. This is soooo cute! I try to leave as detailed plans as possible and as close to our usual routine as possible. I would love to win this!!! I love the idea that everything is coordinated together.

  10. This is so adorable! For subs, I like to leave activities that are engaging and interesting to the kids, otherwise the sub will be beside herself…LOL I make incredibly detailed sub plans, it is so time consuming, but I subbed enough to know that too little information is AWFUL! Again, this is adorable…I would put it to very good use!

  11. I love this. I typically leave things so that my class can follow their regular routine. But it is SOOO MUCH WORK to prepare! This looks so fun and easy for a sub to manage! I would LOVE to have this for my class! Putting this on my wish list for sure!!!

  13. I leave detailed lesson plans along with everything needed for the day. This usually means coming in before school to make sure everything is ready or calling my first grade co-worker for help. I love that we can count on each other when one of us is too sick to come in and make sure that the sub has everything she needs! This packet is amazing in that it includes everything needed for a meaningful day when the teacher is absent. I would love to use this as a thematic unit for my first graders! Thanks for the chance of winning!! sleeteach@hotmail.com

  14. I love this for a sub tub. I never have made one and needed one earlier this year when I had car trouble. This would have been great to have for the sub. I usually leave sub plans that work around my plans for the week.

  15. I would really love to win this for my SUB TUB. It would be awesome. It would be a book that the sub is already familiar with and the packet looks self explanatory. I love the mini posters too. It is something that the kids would enjoy working on and would keep them busy and learning at the same time. Hope my class wins! Rosy rosyashish@yahoo.com

  16. Oh my goodness! This is perfect for my sub crate. I wouldn't have to stress about plans and copies…I could just have this ready to go in advance!!! I have a sub crate, but usually have to spend hours getting everything ready. Thank you for sharing!!!

  17. This is my first year teaching and I've only been out once for training – I'll be out for a second time on Wednesday. Right now I'm simply giving the subs our daily plans, but I would love to have something prepped and ready that I wouldn't have to worry about the students completing if the sub didn't get to everything!

  18. I wish I would have seen this earlier. I was just out unexpectedly Friday and was scrambling to get busy work together, ugh! I will definitely get this unit, prepare it and have it READY for the next time!

  19. I spend hours preparing for a sub. No lie! Can't imagine if an emergency prevented me from coming in…I usually only take off for conferences/in services. This would be a life saver for when one those days comes around!

  20. This is great! I love to leave dice roll games for my students. They have so much variety and the kids enjoy them! I have a pretty set routine so even when I am out the kids know what to do for most activities!

  21. This is a great idea!! We don't get sick days at the charter school I teach at so I have yet to miss a day. At my former school I would have a basic plan written up with procedures and then have them find stories to read or worksheets to do by looking at my daily plans and grabbing that days paper bin.

  22. I like to leave sheets or projects that we have not gotten to, but only over subjects that I have already taught. I would hate for a sub to have to tackle teaching a completely new unit to my class. I will admit that while we don't do a lot of worksheets in class, I like to leave as many as possible for the sub. They are easy and self explanitory. I like that your unit can cover an entire day's worth of lessons.

  23. I always try and be prepared just in case I need a sub – you never know – but this pack is wayyyy cooler than anything I've ever put together LOL!

  24. My "sub tub" for emergencies is divided quarterly, this would be a great packet for that. I love all the Label It! packs, glad to see you have some of those in this…my class loves Label It!

  25. I like to leave my sub an outdoor activity, like a shape walk, with a worksheet where they can record all of the different shapes we are studying on their walk. I would also like to see more sub tub lessons and worksheets geared to the common core.

  26. This packet is so cute! To be honest, I am as healthy as a horse and we don't have personal days (private school) so I rarely have to worry about sub plans. But this would be a great activity for me to use! tokyoshoes at hotmail dot com

  27. Leaving my sub a read aloud with a few activities always makes the day a little easier to plan. Also a math game of some sort after a review of skills we have been working on. I am 8 months pregnant and I am starting to get anxious about planning out my maternity leave, I know it will get done though!

  28. I try to follow the curriculum when I know I'm going to be out (or I run in to work and set things up when I'm sick) but this would be great if I'm ever out and am not able to go in and type up sub plans and get everything ready…. which makes it almost not worth staying home.

  30. I think this is a great idea to leave for a sub. I would feel so much better knowing that my kids are still learning and not just doing busy work or driving a sub crazy!

  32. I am a sophomore in college majoring in education and love looking at your blog! I'm not a teacher yet, obviously, but am starting to collect resources for when I am. I would love to use this myself or keep it for a sub if needed! Thanks so much for all the creative ideas!

  33. I absolutely love this set! With having to miss 16 days of school this year for LETRS training (and any other days on top of that), this would be great to have handy in my sub folder!
